The Sword of the Spirit.

The Sword of the Spirit.

No self respecting soldier will venture on to the battle field without his sword. In modern warfare the sword has been replaced by the gun. However, the gun does not directly equate with the sword, as a gun can be, and usually is, fired from a distance, thus eliminating the need for the soldier to be involved in the battle. A sword, by its very nature, demands that the carrier is directly involved in the battle. To wield a sword requires strength, skill, and tactics!

The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. In order to wield this mighty weapon, the first requirement is STRENGTH. In order to use the word of God you must first stand in the power of my might. You must realise that human strength is not sufficient on its own to even lift the sword of the Spirit! To receive the power of my might you must first stand with Me. Standing with me is to acknowledge that you are nothing before me and have no inherent right to even come near me. However, by accepting the Lord Jesus, and the sacrifice he has made for you on the cross, he has covered you with his own righteousness. He is my Son and because of his selfless love for you, has made it not only possible for you to stand by me but a reality. Stand by me and allow me to cover your hands and add my strength as you lift the sword high.

Lifting the sword high is accepting the Bible is the unchanging absolute truth of God. Yes, the Bible is my words, recorded for your benefit. Accepting it as truth, from the book of Genesis to the book of the Revelation, is the sharp cutting edge of the blade. If you do not accept or believe its truth and reliability, you are trying to wield a weapon with no cutting edge, and no more clout than a piece of old hose pipe!

The second requirement is SKILL. The only way to use the Sword of the Spirit with skill, is to become one with your weapon. Any swordsman will tell you that the sword must become an extension of yourself, you must practice, until it requires only a thought to place that blade exactly where you want it to be, and apply exactly the right amount of force. To do that you must know your weapon!

There is no other way to know the Sword of the Spirit than to soak yourself in the Word of God, from the first chapter of Genesis to the last chapter of Revelation. Let the Word become so read by you, that it is there within you, even when the printed word is not in front of you. Every verse of the Bible can be used against the Evil One, and every word can and has been used for evangelism. These words, however, are of no use to you if you do not 100% believe they are God's Word and therefore true! I do not lie; I am truth, Stand on My word and you will find it is like a firm rock in a wild sea. Stray from it and you will soon find you are swept far from the truth!

The third requirement is TACTICS! As we have seen, in order to use the blade successfully you must know it well and know its strengths. Just as the tip of the blade is good for piercing, the edge is good for slicing and the flat of the blade is good for knocking aside, so each part of My word has different strengths for different situations. for example:

For example, the book of Genesis, which is so often dismissed as myth or is regarded as fantasy, is the very foundation of the salvation Jesus accomplished on the Cross. These passages, which are pushed aside by so many and are thought to have been proved wrong by science, are true as stated. If used properly they reveal not only how and when Creation came into being, but also give the foundation for the work of Jesus' victory over the sin of man.

The Gospels, Matthew Mark, Luke and John, show without any doubt the amazing love of Jesus, who left the glory of Heaven for the love of you! Yes, every one of you! They show every man woman and child that they are loved. Not by fickle man but by God himself!

For those who have lost their hope for the future, the book of Revelation looks forward to the New Heaven and the New Earth.

As you become one with My word, learn the lesson of each passage and which ones are best to use in each situation. Sometimes the tip of the sword is needed to pierce the skin of unbelief. Sometimes the edge is needed cut out the cancer of sin or to cut through the chains that bind. Sometimes the flat of the blade is needed to carve a pathway through the masses to expose the gateway to My Truth.

The Sword of the Spirit is no use to you in someone else's hands. The sword is a one-to-one weapon that requires your total commitment, strength, skill and tactics. You do not fight alone with the sword of the Spirit. I am with you. Stay close and let me help you. Feel my hands over yours as you grasp the hilt. I Love You.
